MSC and Interchange rates, otherwise known as "blended" and "unblended" rates.

In the blended rate all fees are captured into one fee (MSC rate). For new clients this is aan "opt-out-of-the-unblended" option, where to merchants specifically have to agree.

In the unblended rate alle the fees are sperately stated.

 

Below an example

For a Maestro transaction of € 25, - paid with a Dutch debit card, the blended fee is brought together into one amount of € 0,06.

The interbank costs (interchange fee) are  € 0,02 and the costs for the card company (scheme fee) are € 0,004 + a percentage of 0,016% on the transaction amount. The remaining costs are the EMS service costs which you pay for the services EMS offers you.

The card companies charge different fees for Dutch and foreign cards;

  • Debit Domestic NL: a Dutch debit card is used to make a payment to a Dutch entrepreneur.
  • Debit Interregional: an international debit card is used to make a payment to a Dutch entrepreneur.
  • Credit Domestic NL: a Dutch credit card is used to make a payment to a Dutch entrepreneur.
  • Credit EU region: a credit card from within the EU (but not Dutch) is used to make a payment to a Dutch entrepreneur.
  • Credit Interregional: a credit card from outside the EU is used to make a payment to a Dutch entrepreneur.
